I’ve had a hectic start to 2018 (over the past five days I was upstate for Christmas, home in NYC for one day, in PA for a family Christmas party, back the next day for a wedding in Brooklyn, and then closed out 2017 at the beach with friends), but I still wanted to share and document a few of my favorite memories from this past year. I sound like a broken record each time the end of the year nears, but honestly where the heck did it go?! Each year, I do think it is important to take a few minutes to look back and reflect on the year prior, for me it helps me get refreshed and motivated for the year ahead!
In the beginning of 201, Matt and I packed up our apartment that we had called home for 5 years and made a move uptown to our new home. We have been so happy with our decision to move where we did and it truly has made me re-fall in love with the city that I have called home for nearly 10 years! I am still slowly but surely working on sharing each room of our home, but for now you can check out my closet/office here, a few posts that capture our living/dining room here and here, and a glimpse inside our bedroom (more to come) here!
If you are new to following along here, Matt and I both love to travel and have a passion for exploring the world. Each year we try and set time aside for a few longer trips, but we also love planning a few last minute, spontaneous trips as well (this often works best for Matt’s work schedule). We successfully checked 7 countries off our list in 2017. This past spring we did Marrakech, Lisbon (with a day in Sintra) and Amsterdam for one trip and in the fall we went to Budapest, Vienna and Prague (blog post coming this week). We also had a fun long weekend in Iceland with a few of our friends over Memorial Day!
If you are looking for a few fun domestic weekend getaways, Matt and I also try and make it a priority to check out and explore the Northeast. This past year, we headed to Lake Placid (and are headed back in a few weeks…it is a favorite of ours), Jay Peak resort in Vermont to ring in the new year, Greenport to indulge in all things wine and seafood, Nantucket for a wedding, Fire Island with the fam for some R&R, Burlington to visit friends, Lake Tahoe for the most epic skiing I have ever experienced, Naples for work and a weekend in Washington, DC to celebrate my two best friends turning 30!
Speaking of turning 30, I can’t forget that happened to me as well in 2017! Another milestone that to be honest I was anxious about, but has proved to be the most satisfying few months ever. I truly believe you really are only as old as you feel. For my birthday we rented a house with friends out in Montauk and enjoyed soaking in the sun, drinking lots of rosé, and checking out all the fun bars and live music. 2017 truly was one for the books, but I am so excited to see what is in store for 2018! As you can see, I document all of our trips and travels here on the blog and will continue to do so for this year as well!
In addition to moving apartments and traveling a bit, we also had a bunch of our friends get married in which we were able to celebrate with them! As much as I want to relive my actual wedding day (photos below as well) over and over again, I am so relieved to never have to plan another wedding…so stressful! Attending them and appreciating all the time and hard work that goes into planning had been wonderful.
On a more personal note, Matt and I were thrilled to become an aunt and uncle again to the cutest little girl, Charley who made her debut in November! We now have two nieces (and a third due any day now) on my brother’s side and a niece and nephew on Matt’s brother’s side. Needless to say, we are LOVING our role and feel so blessed to have the family that we do.
Cheers to an amazing 2017 and an even more incredible 2018! As always, thank you so much for all your love and support along the way!
