Okay you guys, I finally compiled a blog post with my favorite homemade Trader Joe’s trail mix so it would be easy for you all to save and come back to. I remember when I first shared this on Instagram Stories I had messages asking if it was saved anywhere and what I used, etc., so hopefully this is helpful! In my opinion it is the perfect balance of salty and sweet and more affordable in the long run than buying their pre-made bags. If you have a little one, it is a great activity to get them involved and Logan loves snacking on this trail mix as well.
What I Use:
Listed below are the main ingredients I use each time when making. I sometimes add in dry roasted cashews, but picked up these sesame honey cashews to try out, which added the perfect amount of extra sweetness (and ended up being Logan’s favorite).
- Dry Roasted + Salted Almonds
- Raisin Medley
- Roasted + Salted Peanuts
- Dry Roasted + Unsalted Pistachio Nutmeats Halves + Pieces
- Unsweetened + unsullfured Dark Sweet Cherries
- Unsweetened Coconut Chips
- Sesame Sticks
- Sesame Honey Cashews
The Prep:
There really is no rhyme or reason when it comes to measuring things out. I personally go heavier on the non-sweet items and then slowly add in the sweet. The best part is you can always add and adjust at the end or while you taste test throughout. When reading above what I grab to mix in, you will see it is a mix of lightly salted and unsalted items. I try and be aware of how much salt I am adding, mainly because Logan enjoys eating this snack as well. I first like to layer all my ingredients in a bowl and then mix all together. It just makes the trail mix a bit more evenly distributed when pouring into your storage container.

I like to store my trail mix in these glass canisters with an easy flip lid, but you can also store in a zip-loc bag or with whatever you have on hand. My exact canister is from IKEA, but Amazon sells a bunch of size options as well.
