I decided to write this post after a few DMs/requests from you all. I want to start out by saying though on vacation I do not hold back with what I am eating and drinking. It is the one time to getaway, relax and just fully enjoy the culture and amazingness wherever you are. With that being said, Matt and I are typically super active on vacation. We aren’t one to “workout” per say, but are constantly on the go, walking, hiking, exploring, etc. so I know that helps when eating every meal like it is my last. Also, I am pretty strict when returning from vacation and know what works with me to clear up my skin (thank you non-stop carbs and dairy) and just feel all around good.
For the longest time whenever we would get back form traveling as much as I wanted a fresh, home cooked meal, we would never have the energy or it would be too late to go get any groceries. The one thing that has saved me has been to utilize a grocery delivery service and have it arrive right before you get home. While I typically prefer to shop in-store, it is a simple solution to restock your fridge with healthy options upon arrival. The amount of times we were pulling out the credit card and cash, I always feared that we would get robbed abroad! Of course this doesn’t happen to everyone, but it just made us realise that we had to be more careful. Anyway, after eating non-stop, Matt and I typically are in the mood for a salad, so I make sure to have those ingredients on hand as well as a protein to toss on top.
The second thing I do is schedule a workout class for the next morning. When traveling abroad jet-lag usually gets the best of me and I am up super early for the next few mornings until I adjust. I use this to my advantage to unpack, dive back into work and make a early morning workout class to get my day started. It always feels good to have a good sweat after all the indulging.
Once I can make it to the grocery store, I stock up on fruits, veggies, fish, eggs and healthy snacks (will list some go-to meals below) and try to avoid dairy, carbs and anything sugary. I also recently bought Kristin Cavallari (#girlcrush) True Roots cookbook which has a TON of yummy and healthy recipes. I just snapped on Instagram Stories about the Cannellini Bean and Pistachio Humus I made from the cookbook which is out of this world.
A few go-to recipes:
Creamy Balsamic Chicken and Brussels Sprouts
Sweet Potato, Egg, Avocado Bowl
Lemony Quinoa Brussels Sprout Salad
Last, but not least, I thought I would share what has quickly become my summer uniform. Lightweight sweaters, a fun pair of shorts (also love this cute white fringe pair), a neutral tote and slight pop of color in my sandals. Sole Society has the best selection of summer sandals, all which are incredibly comfortable and great for a day spent running around. I wish I was headed somewhere more glamorous after taking these shots, but to be honest I was en route to Whole Foods to stock up on some more groceries! Listing out a few current favorites from their new arrival footwear section incase you love a comfy shoe too!
