A question I receive often, is how exactly to wear layers for fall (or cooler months in general). I know when winter rolls around, I can be guilty of dressing like a snowman just to keep warm, but there are ways to layer up and remain looking chic. It is important to start with the base of your outfit, something not too bulky and easy to build upon. Lately, I have been loving a classic shirtdress and find it to be a very easy “first layer” of your look.
While the temperatures are still warm enough to wear ankle booties throughout the day, the mornings in NYC have been windy and very cool, so if opting to wear a dress or skirt, I find myself pulling out my over the knee boots. I love the flat heel of these Sole Society boots, which are easy to toss on over denim or pair with a dress, as shown below. Plus, over the knee boots are my secret to getting through the winter without having to wear tights (my least favorite thing).
The second step for creating the perfect layers is to find a jacket medium in weight that will keep you warm, but can also be worn as part of your outfit.
