Last weekend Matt and I decided to take an impromptu trip upstate to escape NYC and take in some of the crisp fall air. We have had Mohonk Mountain House on our list of places to visit for quiet some time and finally bit the bullet. Nestled about 1 hour and 45 minutes outside New York City, you are truly transported to the most picturesque place where you are guaranteed to rest and relax!
To be honest, I would say the best way to get there is by car. It is a really pretty drive and depending on the time of year, there are a bunch of fun orchards and wineries you can stop at along the way (more on that later). While my biggest hesitation all along was the price for even the cheapest room (around $600/night + tax and a built in gratuity fee, also to note our room was tiny with no TV and very limited wifi, just an FYI if looking to book), what I needed to factor in was that all of your meals are included (dinner the day you arrive, breakfast and brunch/lunch) and you have access to some really fun activities on the property. They have everything from boating on the lake, 86 miles of hikes, horseback riding, golfing, heated indoor swimming pool and much more. They also have a beautiful spa (we didn’t have time to check it out), but that does come at an additional cost as well as any alcohol or extra food purchased on the property.
Mohonk Mountain House seemed like it was suitable for all ages, but I would say the vast majority were families with their kids or a slightly older crowd. Needless to say, Matt and I had the best time exploring the property, watching the most EPIC sunset on their porch looking over the mountains and actually fully unwinding and enjoying time away from the craziness of the city.
