LESSONS IN LAYERING
October 30, 2013

When it comes to throwing layers on, I’m pretty sure I top the charts.  As I have mentioned before I am usually freezing at all times, yet in certain places get warmer then usual.  This may be one reason I am partial to the fall, because I do not need an excuse to be wearing a million things which to some may resemble a sumo wrestler (hey, if it makes me warm, so be it!).  There are a few techniques I try and stick to when making this look appear more “acceptable”.  You can find these tips and tricks that i adhere to, below the photos.

Step One: Start with a basic top that has some texture.  This way it adds a bit more appeal to the eye rather then a plain white top.  Choose something with a picture, wording or in this case layered ruffles (going with the layer theme, obsessed, well aware).

Step Two: Next, choose a loser fitting boyfriend cardigan that is longer in length.  While you are attempting the “layered look” you don’t want to resemble a marshmallow, so adding different lengths can help balance everything out.

Step Three:  Faux leather jacket all the way, or any jacket that is fitted.  Using a more tailored coat helps hug everything closer to your body, once again making sure you steer clear of a marshmallow.

Step Four: Top off with a fun vest…quilted, faux fur, puffy, whatever it may be.  This adds some dimension and allows you to still see the texture of your jacket peek through on the sleeves.

I also always pair layers with super skinny pants or jeans.  This way you aren’t bulky all over and it balances everything out.  Finishing with a cute bootie or heel ties everything together quite nicely.
