HOW TO: SHOP YOUR BOYFRIEND’S CLOSET
October 18, 2013

Calling all guy friends, boyfriends, fiances and husbands…the below applies to you. So go ahead and hide your favorite shirts and sweaters because we are taking over your closet too!

We all have those moments where we stare blankly into our closet with a puzzled expression on our face.  Following this, we often begin to complain that we have absolutely nothing amongst all these clothes to wear.  I often repeat this phrase about five times before taking a seat on my bed and pouting like a toddler throwing a tantrum.  Gone are the college days of walking into your roommate’s room and borrowing whatever you like (and obeying the rule of as long as they wore it once).  I felt like Carrie Bradshaw in a sea of endless possibilities in a ever extending closet.  When I decided to become a grown-up (eek!) and move in with my boyfriend, my world of constant closet swap came to a quick halt.  Lately, I decided to put an end to that and was determined to make some of his clothes work for me.  It all started back when I wanted a cozy sweater to wear to the Superbowl, and my boyfriend had just the perfect one…thanks again MPK 😉

Look One: The Classic Button Down

  • It’s ok for it to be oversized, that’s the point!
  • Wear a fitted shirt underneath and make sure to cuff the sleeves to right under your elbow
  • Leave the bottom few buttons undone and tie/knot the shirt just slightly to the side
  • Pair with a skirt or over a dress for a more feminine look
  • Add a fun statement necklace to seal the deal

Look Two: Oversized Sweater
  • Save your money on those “boyfriend” style sweaters and take a peek in your guy’s closet first
  • Pair with a skinny fit pant so you don’t look too bulky
  • Tuck a bit of the sweater in so it is a bit more fitted
  • Cuff your sleeves to your wrist
  • Pick a heavier necklace that helps form the sweater to your body
  • Choose a wedge or heel to elongate your legs with the looser fitting sweater
Sweater: J.Crew (similar + similar) // Pants: Zara, make sure to check actual store they have much similar (similar + similar) // Shoes: Target (obsessed and ordering a second pair for when these get ruined) // Necklace: Banana Republic (similar + similar add a broach)
