When planning my outfit, I typically choose one focal piece (usually something newish I’m dying to wear) and create the rest of my look around it. With fall finally being here, and the endless options of adorable boots in every shape and color, I have found myself starting with the shoes and building from there. One of my go-to brands each fall (and other seasons) for a great selection of versatile shoes is Johnston & Murphy.
When it comes to shoes, it is essential to have two types to get you through the fall/winter season: an ankle booties and taller boot. An ankle bootie is my must-have for a more relaxed and casual style and works well for running errands or meeting a friend for lunch. I opted for this two-tone suede pair for a day walking around the West Village and grabbing brunch with Matt and my brother-in-law. I wanted something comfortable since I knew I would be spending some time on my feet and the height of this heel was perfect. One thing to note if purchasing, I found the fit to run a bit narrow and would suggest sizing up half a size for easier comfort of sliding in and out of the shoe.
My second must-have is a taller boot, which can create a more polished feel. I love the height of this ankle wrap boot, as it works well paired with a dress or in this case a classic pair of denim. I was torn between the grey and chestnut, but stuck with the chestnut as it can be styled well with so many pieces. When investing in a piece you want to make sure you will get enough wear out of it, so always take a mental note of your clothing and accessories and pick the color that works best for you!
