2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY – HOW TO KEEP DATE NIGHT ALIVE

Styled Snapshots

Two years ago today I was walking down the aisle to meet Matt at the alter. It is honestly so surreal to think that two years have already passed! If you haven’t caught up on our “love story” you can check out how we met/the proposal here and details from our wedding day here and here. To bring you quickly up to speed if you are new around here, Matt and I met almost 10 years ago during our junior year of college. Fast forward finishing undergrad, Matt heading to law school, moving to the Big Apple, moving in together, becoming an aunt and uncle, bringing our beloved fur-child into our family, traveling the world, starting the little piece of the web called Styled Snapshots, getting engaged, getting married, moving again into a new apartment…I think it is safe to say we have covered a lot of ground in nearly a decade! I am so excited for what the next 100 years holds and to watch our family grow when the time is right.

Not to get all cheesy on you, but Matt is truly my rock. He holds this family together, brings me back down to reality when needed, makes me laugh, attempts to keep my stress at bay, and is going to be the most incredible father one day. The saying goes that opposites attract and while we have lot of similarities we also have lots of differences! One thing we both agree on is making an effort to always make time for us. At this stage in our life with both of our careers having high demands, it can honestly be a challenge.

The one trick of the trade I want to share with you all that seems to work well for us is to try and pick one night a week to have a “date night.” Take turns planning the date and it can be anything from pizza and a movie on the couch to going out to dinner to a new restaurant you have been wanting to try. On this day in particular, Matt and I decided to have a “day date” and include Hadley since we knew we would be traveling to Europe and she will be living her best life at camp-grandparents in the ‘burbs! We love Central Park this time of year. The leaves start to change and the temps are comfortable to walk around. And we ended the day grabbing some dip and dots at a new stand in the park…a throwback to our youth!

Whenever we head on these weekly date nights, we both try and make an effort to always get a bit more dressed. I opted for a cozy cardigan and Matt a navy vest and button-up. As we have gotten older, we have realized the importance of investing in some higher quality pieces. Matt has been drawn to Ted Baker, a designer that seamlessly transitions between work and play. Nordstrom always seems to have the best selection and with free shipping both ways Matt is able to pull a bunch of styles to try, keep what works and send back what doesn’t. Matt can’t ever seem to have enough white button downs (truly, every time I ask him if he needs anything this is it), and with wedding season upon us, we have been on the hunt for a new suit that is both wedding and work appropriate. This trim fit wool suit is perfect for the cooler months and will be getting a ton of use coming up. Another popular piece Matt always loves to have on hand is a slim fit jacket. This jacket is the perfect option if you are uncertain on how dressy the occasion may be. While Matt prefers to style it with a pair of denim, it also looks great with a pair of slacks!
