So I know this post is a little bit overdue, but I still wanted to share some photos of our time in Fire Island! This is the second year in a row that my in-laws have been so generous to rent a house for our entire family in Kismet, Fire Island. It is such a fun and easy escape from the city. To get there, you take a ferry over from Bay Shore, Long Island. Bay Shore is a little over 1 hour on the Long Island Railroad, making a trip to Fire Island a much faster city escape than heading out to the Hamptons. I should mention that there are several towns on fire island (I think approximately 12 in all). Most towns use a different ferry, and each has its own unique qualities. Many of the towns have a restaurant or two (Ocean Beach is the largest, and has several bars and restaurants). Where we stay in Kismet, there are two main bar/restaurants: the Kismet Inn and Surfs Out. When you go head out for the night, everyone says they are heading to the Inn and Out! I love the moment the ferry pulls up to the dock, and it is a bit of a tradition for any family members that are already on the island to welcome you at the ferry, usually with a wagon in tow to help lug all your belongings to your home.
It is hard to put into words how nice and relaxing this place is, you truly need to experience it to fully understand. I love creating memories here, and since there isn’t too much to do (aside from the beach), it kind of forces everyone to spend a lot of time together as a family. From cooking out, to board game, to long walks on the beach, there is a little something for everyone. I typically kick off my shoes the moment I get there and the only time I put them back on is if we go into town (aka to the Inn or the Out!). Needless to say, Hadley lives her BEST life here. She is off the leash the entire time and pretty much has her own beach chair, where she rotates between naps in the fresh ocean air to playing with other pups.
For today’s post, I thought I would share a few photos of recapping my time here. If you all have any questions about Fire Island in general, feel free to ask! Happy Tuesday, everyone!
