WINTER LAYERS
December 8, 2015

For days spent outside enjoying the city, I tend to gravitate towards layers that are easy to take on and off. The weather has been so crazy in New York lately and much more mild than usual—this past weekend I didn’t even need to wear a coat over this puffy vest. But I’m sure its just a matter of days, until the warm streak breaks and it starts to actually feel like December and then I’ll be adding even extra layers.

This season, Old Navy has the cutest pieces made for layering with a very budget friendly price point (and currently a big sale going on). My pom-pom hat makes a perfect gift for a friend or Secret Santa and I may have to invest in these lounge pants for keeping cozy by our fire during the holidays.

My favorite people to shop for (besides maybe my dog, sad I know!!), are my two nieces. But with them being 3 and 6 they tend to wear something for a season and then grow out of it. So I find buying trendy items for a lower price point totally the way to go. I have had my eye on this sweater dress and this poncho for their Christmas gift.

I know a lot of people visit New York this time of year, so I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite restaurants to dine at over the holidays. Some restaurants made this short-list because they really go over the top with decorations, and others just have that cozy feel perfect for a cool winter night.

  • Rolf’s – As I mentioned in this post, this restaurant is a must during the holidays! The decorations are insane.  Matt and I have made it a tradition to go on  a date here every December. But make sure to make reservations well in advance!
  • The Library at the Nomad Hotel – This trendy hotel has the coolest bar with gorgeous decorations, including a christmas tree.
  • Pete’s Tavern – This historic tavern in Union Square is so cozy, and the holiday decor just makes it that much cozier.
  • Red Head – Honestly, I can’t recall if this restaurant goes all out with holiday decor, but this small restaurant in the east village is one of my favorite places to enjoy a cocktail or dinner on cold winter night. Don’t forget to order the bacon peanut brittles!
