MILITARY JACKET
August 26, 2015

If you follow me on instagram, I mention in last nights photo that I would be doing a military jacket roundup on the blog today. I choose this item because it truly never goes out of style, and I own a few too many and often contemplate if there is a huge difference at varying price points. While this J.Crew one has always been a favorite, in particular I am drawn to the length and oversized hood, Gap offers a very similar one for a fraction of the price. You can read more details about each below the photo!

Even though I don’t mention them below, don’t forget about the vest option, I love pairing mine with a casual shirt or sweater underneath (see post here). (Military Vests: save // spend // splurge)

MILITARY JACKETS, utility jacket, best military jacket, 2015 fall trends

  1. Laundry by Design, $150 — One of my favorite features of this jacket is the wax finish and detachable hood. While on the more pricey side, the waxed-finish is extremely durable and holds up well with all weather.
  2. J.Crew, $168 — This is my favorite pick of them all. The cotton twill lends to a very comfortable jacket and a more relaxed, worn in feel. I typically prefer a longer length jacket like this one entails.
  3. Treasure & Bond, $168 — A packable hood and elbow patches are the selling feature of this jacket. And while there are unfortunately not many sizes left online, I tried it on in stores and it is worth seeking out. The jacket is a bit more relaxed fit, but easy enough to pair a sweater under once the weather cools.
  4. Joe Fresh, $45 — For this price I couldn’t help but give this jacket a try! You can check out today’s instagram where I have it styled. While affordable it is, it does run on the more boxy side and make sure you size down! I actually like it a lot better in person than what I saw online.
  5. Gap, $88 — Available in three colors and a fairly durable material. I would take advantage of the draw strings and cinch the waist to create a less boxy feel!
  6. Old Navy, $45 — This jacket doesn’t have as many features (pockets, detachable hood, etc) as the others, but the price truly can’t be beat. It is available in two colors and if you are looking to give the military jacket a try, but not 100% ready to commit this is a great option. I own this army print jacket from Old Navy and to this day it remains a favorite!
  7. J.Crew, $178 — Similar to my favorite option from J.crew (mentioned above), I tried this one on and debuted it via last nights instagram. My favorite part is the hood that tucks into the bold zipper collar. The color is a bit more green and defined in this jacket, so if you want a more muted look I would suggest the #2 option I listed!
  8. Maison Scotch, $219 — This is the most expensive option, but I added it as a more subtle, no frills jacket. The structure is simple and could adapt easily to any outfit and be worn throughout the day and not just as a jacket.
